PVMGA Golf Results for February

Jim Roberts, Publicity

February was filled with a lot of FUN Activities. Starting off was the Fun Day for Charity on Feb. 1. Four-person teams played a challenging round of golf with many obstacles set up on the course by some diabolical person(s). A good time was had by all, and proceeds from the day were donated evenly to our Fire Department and Neighbors Who Care.

On Feb. 6 and 8, a Home and Home was played with golfers from SunBird. The format was 2 Best Balls for each four-man team of two golfers each from SunBird and Palo Verde. Thursday was played at SunBird, followed by a lunch at their clubhouse. Saturday was played at Palo Verde. First place was won by the team of Gary Hall, Wes Terry, Mike Mlynarczyk, and Adrian Barber. Second place went to Brian Robinson, Bill Eppinga, Gene Finney, and Dick Hollenbaugh. There was a three-way tie for third place. Congratulations to all the golfers.

On Feb. 15, the men hosted a Sweetheart Tournament in a Two-Person Scramble format, followed by a romantic luncheon in honor of Valentine’s Day. The first flight was won by Linn Henderson and Mary Sanchez. Second place went to Dick Hollenbaugh and Sandy Worden, with third going to Jeff and Diane French and fourth place going to Bob Butt and Carol Russell.

The second flight was won by Tom and Helen Jeub (who makes great cookies, by the way). Second place went to Dick Thomas and Pamela Mason, with third going to Mike and Kathy Mlynarczyk and fourth going to Adrian and Anita Barber.

On Feb. 22, the golf course was closed due to heavy rain. All events were canceled.

On the 29th, the first round of the Club Championship was contested. The second and final round was played on March 7. The 2020 Club Champion is Mike Lorimer, who shot a two-round total of 129. The runner-up is Jerry Davis with a score of 132, and the Masters Champion is David Florence with a score of 147. Congratulations to all three of these fine golfers.

Flight winners were as follows:

First Flight: 1st place was Mike Lorimer, with Jerry Davis second. Third place went to Terry Denefe, and Pat Conroy in fourth.

Second Flight: Ron Cox in first, John Kane second, Royal Carlson in third, and David Florence in fourth.

Third Flight: Paul Jorgensen first, Tom McLeod second, Danny Jetton in third, and Terry Thomas in fourth.

Fourth Flight: Jack Hall was first, Adrian Barber was second, Julian Picken was third, and Gary Assenmacher was fourth.

Fifth Flight: Vaughn Torgusen was first, Arnie Pinsley was second, Bob Kruse was third, and Richard Kool was fourth.

The golfing was followed by the awards presentation with pizza and beer on the Pro Shop patio.

As you can see, there was a lot of good golf played those days. And there was some not-so-good golf played as well (such as yours truly). But everyone had a good time in beautiful weather.
