The monthly Restless Minds discussion group will meet on Tuesday, November 13 – one week after the mid-term elections.
By then, we will know the makeup of Congress for the next two years, as well as thousands of state and local offices that have a direct impact on our lives.
The discussion group will consider how the election results will impact government and politics in the short-term. The meeting will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 13, in the Sewing Room of Oakwood’s Arts & Crafts Center.
Restless Minds is receptive to all people with open, inquisitive minds. There are no dues or membership requirements. All political and social points of view are encouraged to engage in this friendly exchange of ideas each month. Just show up and participate.
Almost certainly, a week after the election, talk already will have turned to the 2020 presidential election, a topic sure to be explored during the discussion. Will President Trump run again? Have any strong contenders emerged among the Democrats? Will there be any sort of break before 2020 dominates daily headlines?
More immediately, what, if any, changes are likely for Arizona? Did the election finally produce the long-promised but so far elusive shift in the state’s politics from solidly Republican to a “purple” or even light blue state?
And finally, the discussion will explore whether 2018 did turn out to be the “Year of the Woman” and what that may mean going forward.
