Sun Lakes Country Club Ladies Pitch and Putt

Arlene Fletcher

Anticipation was met by disappointment on Thursday, January 3, as the first game of the Pitch and Putt season was canceled because of the weather. However, instead, we met for coffee and a chance to catch up with old friends and make some new ones.

Thursday, January 10, was a much warmer day, and 28 of us met at the Pitch and Putt course behind the Sun Lakes Country Club. Teams were formed by drawing cards, and a scramble was played. The winning team, with a score of 22, was Leslie Hegemeister, Linda Welchlin, Janice Cosgrove and Sherry Digel. The second-place team, with a score of 23, was Mary Eberle, Kathy Lyons, Karen Torrance and Arlene Fletcher. Jan Sykes hit the infamous tree!

We are a group of determined women who range from skilled golfers to those who have just picked up a club. We always play a scramble, so every player is supported. We have a fun time laughing, encouraging and hopefully learning how to hit that little ball. We appreciate the work that Mary Harper and her crew put into this to make it so successful! Unfortunately, at this time, our rosters are full and we cannot accept any new members.

On February 14, be sure to wear red to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We will get together after golf on February 28 for an optional breakfast or lunch in the Sunset Grill. Our final day of golf, with a luncheon to follow, will be on March 28.

Check-in for golf will be at 9:30 a.m. this season with the game commencing at 10 a.m. Remember, if the temperature is 30 or below or it is raining, we don’t golf.
