As the start of 2021 begins, the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation (SLJC) is eagerly looking forward to the time when we can once more gather in person to enjoy our monthly services under the leadership of our wonderful Rabbi, Irwin Wiener, and talented cantor and choir director, Ronda Polesky and Lana Oyer, respectively.

This month, services will take place on Friday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m., via YouTube and, as always, the entire community is welcome to join us as we install and honor our incoming officers and board of directors. Co-presidents are Wende Levy and Geri Gould. Marty Levine will serve as recording secretary, and Wendy Feldman-Kerr will handle the duties of treasurer. Wendy Goldstein, Marty Levine, Wende Levy, Susie Shapiro, and Murray Siegel are all new to the board this year. Returning board members are Mike Abrams, Linda Brooks, Gail Dante, Marilyn Koss, and Mike Milgroom, as well as Janey Burnce and Carol Biales, who are the Sisterhood representatives, and Steve Horowitz, who is the Men’s Club representative. Retiring board members are Jeff Spear and Arthur Fink, whom the Congregation wishes to thank for their dedicated service. At the same time, SLJC will also be celebrating Tu B’shevat, or what has come to be known as Holiday of Trees. It is to remind us, as Jews, of our precious relationship to the earth and its bounties. Modern practices include planting of trees, both here and in Israel, and/or donating money for that purpose.
