As we move into the New Year 2019, we continue to reach out to the many new arrivals in the East Valley. The Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation (SLJC) is an established reform congregation that meets on the second Friday of the month at the Sun Lakes Chapel, Riggs Road and Sun Lakes Blvd. Services are a great way to meet new people, connect with Judaism and learn. SLJC is an active congregation with members of all ages who come from communities around the world. Tradition and prayer are woven into our services by Rabbi Irwin Wiener. January offers many interesting events:

*Friday, January 11 – 7:00 p.m. Shabbat Services and installation of new board members

*Saturday, January 19 – Our second “Saturday at the Movies” showing the film Denial, starring Rachel Weisz, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Villas at Ocotillo on the northeast corner of Alma School and Ocotillo. The movie, popcorn and drinks are free, but you must call to make a reservation, as space is limited. Call Gail at 480-802-1832 to reserve a spot.

*Sunday, January 20 – We are invited to the United Church of Christ to participate in an interfaith community service with Pastor Meyer and Rabbi Wiener. Both choirs will sing, and this should be a beautiful service which starts at 11:15 a.m.

*Monday, January 21 – Our Rabbi has accepted an invitation from The Jewish Community Relations Council for our congregation to walk with the Jewish community of Phoenix as they celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. JCRC will bring a large banner, and we welcome you to bring signs as well. This walk is a very easy pace, suitable for all ages and for baby strollers, too. Our meeting time is 9:00 a.m. at the First Institutional Baptist Church located at 1141 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, AZ 85034. Shuttle service is provided to return to your vehicle after the march.
