Sun Lakes Republican Club to meet October 10

Carolyn McCorkle, Executive Regional Vice President

The Sun Lakes Republican Club will feature “Preserving Liberty” with Arizona Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Yee and “Litigating for Liberty” with Christina Sandefur, Executive Vice President of the Goldwater Institute, at its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Arizona Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 N. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. The public is invited.

Arizona State Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Yee was a speaker on the stage at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, on the opening day of the convention. She is the first Asian American woman elected to serve in the Arizona Legislature in our state’s history and is the second woman to serve as Senate Majority Leader since U.S. Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Yee currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee, Vice Chairman of the Rules Committee and as a member of the Senate Committee on Education and the Committee on Health and Human Services.

In 2016, Senator Yee was named among the nation’s “25 Most Influential Women in State Politics” by Congressional Quarterly’s Roll Call. She earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Arizona State University where she was the recipient of the honored Scholar-Citizen Award.

Attorney Christina Sandefur develops policies and litigates cases advancing healthcare freedom, free enterprise, private property rights, free speech and taxpayer rights. She has won victories for property rights in Arizona and works nationally to promote the Goldwater Institute’s Private Property Rights Protection Act, a state-level reform that requires government to pay owners when regulations destroy property rights and reduce property values. She is also a co-drafter of the Right to Try initiative, now law in over half of the states, which protects terminally ill patients’ right to try safe investigational treatments that have been prescribed by their physician but are not yet FDA approved for market.

Christina is the co-author of the book, Cornerstone of Liberty: Private Property Rights in 21st Century America (2016). She is a frequent guest on national television and radio programs, including Fox Business’s Stossel and The Armstrong & Getty Show. Her litigation and policy work has been featured in National Review, The Washington Post, Human Events, The American Spectator and The Weekly Standard, among others. Ms Sandefur is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Law and Hillsdale College.

The Goldwater Institute is a non-profit conservative and libertarian public policy think tank based in Phoenix. The Institute’s stated mission is “to defend and strengthen the freedom guaranteed to all Americans in the constitutions of the United States and all 50 states.” Founded in 1988 with the support of former U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, The Institute is a public policy research organization.
