Sun Lakes VFW Post 8053 Auxiliary participates in fundraisers and charities that support veterans, both nationally and locally.

One of the recipients is the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children and Families of members of the VFW in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. It was established in 1925 and is a living memorial to all veterans. Children and families of VFW and Auxiliary members are given opportunities for growth and development in a nurturing community.

VFW Post 8053 Auxiliary supports it with funds and by collecting box tops and labels. Philomena Herring held a jar to collect them from products like General Mills cereals, Betty Crocker mixes, Kleenex, Progressive soups, Hefty bags, Reynolds baking pans, some frozen foods and other products. There is a similar jar available in the lobby of Sun Lakes Country Club. The collected tops and labels are used to buy supplies and other necessities for the children and families at the VFW National Home. Anyone can contribute, and all contributions are appreciated. Funds are raised for local veterans in several ways, with one of them being the sale of cakes plus lemonade, iced tea and coffee on Wednesdays at Bingo. The cakes and drinks are donated, and the funds generated serve local veteran causes.

Help the Auxiliary help veterans, their families, those in VA Medical Centers and other hospitals, military youth with scholarships and activities and community service.
