According to a study in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, group exercise with learning routines can actually reverse brain changes that occur due to aging. People in the study who did a variety of routines while working out at the same time had healthier white matter in a part of the brain linked with memory. Oddly enough, those who walked did not receive the same improvement. How can this be? Scientists believe that the combination of exercise, mental stimulation and social engagement makes learning routines with group workout a good choice for holding off the effects of aging.
