Yoga – Vinyasa style

Sheila Axtman

November is a very exciting time in Sun Lakes. We welcome back the many people who vacation elsewhere in the summer. November is also the beginning of the holiday season. This month, we celebrate and honor our veterans and give thanks for our many blessings on Thanksgiving Day. And it is a great month to practice vinyasa yoga.

What is vinyasa yoga? Put simply it is – yoga poses linked together by sun salutations. Sun salutations are a series of poses that move your body from standing to forward folds to the floor and back to standing, linking movement and breath. This type of yoga practice increases endurance, strength, proprioception, improves balance and builds self-confidence. Practitioners report improved performance in the many activities offered in Sun Lakes, including tennis and golf.

These classes are not suitable for beginner yogis, but if you are fit and healthy, my Tuesday class may be a good fit for you. Thursday’s classes are a little more advanced.

The yoga group is fun, welcoming and friendly. Please join us.

There are some blocks, straps and blankets available for students to use as props during class. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. in Room A-6 in Cottonwood.

I am a Yoga Alliance Registered RYT200 yoga teacher. I live and play in Cottonwood, and I can be reached at 480-264-9951.

P.S.: I will be teaching “Golfers Yoga” starting in November. Sign up in the Cottonwood Pro Shop.
