On Saturday, March 28 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., the Agave Quilt Guild will hold its sixth annual Quilt Show for the very first time, in the Oakwood Ballroom of the Oakwood Country Club, 24218 S. Oakwood Blvd, in Sun Lakes, Arizona. This one day free quilt show features quilts of all styles, each one stitched by one of the 250 plus guild members. Attendees will see large traditionally pieced bed quilts, all of the beautiful forms of appliqué, both machine and needle-turned and many, many superb artistic wall quilts. There will be examples of crazy quilting, miniatures and yo-yos, plus quilted totes, bags and purses.

While many of the quilts are machine sewn and quilted, others are exceptional examples of hand–piecing and hand-quilting. The show even includes a special fundraising raffle, the President’s Challenge, designed by President Faith Bragg. The theme of the 2015 Challenge is holidays and celebrations and more than 20 Challenge wall quilts, plus one larger art quilt will be up for silent auction, or raffling. Included are the three award-winning Challenge quilts, as voted on by the membership.

The Agave Guild, founded 20 years ago, also has an excellent boutique full of handmade treasures like aprons, small wall hangings and luggage tags, plus quilted purses, bags, totes, potholders and casserole carriers. There are handmade greeting cards, quilted placemats, plus Easter and Mother’s Day gifts; moreover, everything is priced very reasonably. All boutique receipts will fund continuing member education, and Agave’s community service projects. For 2015, Agave’s service project is making shoulder totes for women and children staying at various shelters and filling the totes with much needed personal care items, since the women often arrive with nothing. To donate any unused personal care items (like hotel sized soap and shampoo), bring them to the show for drop off. Along with the boutique and the Challenge quilts, the show always includes several themed raffle baskets like golfing, wine and cheese, and of course, quilting. Tickets for raffle items are $1 each and six for $5. Again in 2015, there is no admission charge to attend. The Oakwood Country Club has free parking, a great on-site restaurant, The Poolside and handicapped access for those who need it. To get to the show enter Oakwood at the Riggs and E. J. Robson intersection and after passing through the guard station, take Robson to Oakwood Blvd. Follow the signs and continue left to the Ballroom. For a most wonderful time, come spend March 28 at the Agave Quilt Show at our new location, the Ballroom of the Oakwood Country Club.
