Four couples from Sun Lakes embarked on a deep sea fishing expedition in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia last June. Dave and Kathy Schnell from Saskatchawan organized the trip as Dave has been traveling to Queen Charlotte Lodge for halibut and salmon fishing for several years. Chuck and Doris Swanson from Utah, Lee and Norma Tucker from Denver and John and Becky Kolb (year round Sun Lakes residents) met in Calgary and boarded a charter plane to Masset and then boarded helicopters for the short ride to Queen Charlotte Lodge. Each couple had their own boat and guide daily for four days. Each caught their limit of halibut and salmon. Dave caught the largest halibut he was able to keep at 84 lbs. John caught the largest halibut at 92 lbs., but it was over the limit for Canadian fishing and was released. What a great time for four couples in different parts of the country to come together for a great vacation!
