Well, June came to us very gently this year. Temperatures were in the 90s the first two weeks of the month. We didn’t hit 100 until the 15th. But by the end of the month, the “heat was on.”
On June 1, the men played in an Individual Stableford Tournament. This is where players accumulate points based on their score on a hole-by-hole basis. In the first flight, Steve Ryland won first place, with Rick Nelson taking second and Ron Crabtree in third. In the second flight, Joe Lombardo took first place with a tie between John Byczko and Bob Rouleau for second.
On June 8, a 3-Best Ball Net team event was played. First place went to the team of Rick Smith, George Thomas, Julian Pickens and Joe Lombardo. Second place went to Jack Hill, John Byczko, James Granzow and Keith Wilson.
On June 15, a 2-Net Best Ball team competition was played. This week was also an Ace of Aces qualifier. First place went to the team of Jim Snyder, Tony Huffman, Jim Carlson and Joe Lombardo. Second place was won by Daryl Ramseyer, Bud Murray, Fred Townsend and Bob Keltz.
On June 22, the CottonVerde Beat the Pro Team Scramble was contested. It was a fun day with pizza and beverages following the golf. And it turned out that 12 teams BEAT the pros. Yea for us!
On June 29, a Select-a-Drive 2 Net Best Ball Team event was played. The winning team consisted of Dick Howell, Bud Murray, Rich Griffis and Hal Newton. Second place went to Rick Nelson, George Thomas, Al Grefsheim and Arny Pinsly.
All in all, it was a fun month of golf. As the scores came down, the temps went up. Summer is definitely here, so play early and drink lots of water.
