Our fun Extended League has been running smoothly now for 12 straight years in a row, and nothing has stopped us from playing again this year, not even the coronavirus. Many of us felt so fortunate to get out and exercise, enjoy the fresh air, and compete with our tennis friends while other places were in complete lockdown. We were set up to have four courts at first, but several of the girls decided they were going to play it safe and suspend from the league. We ended up switching to three courts starting on April 6 through May 18. The usual round robin format was used, and the heat was not a factor this spring, and the last day of play we gathered on the veranda, distancing ourselves six feet apart while briefly enjoying a cold ice cream cone while awards were handed out. We had three red players in our league this year, and guess what. We found out they deserve to be red players for sure. First place went to Cindy McCarville, second place to Sandra LaBute Discoe, and third place to Kathy Moliter. Only two games separated second and third place.

I thought it might be interesting to look back at the awards given for the past four years.

2016: 1st place to Karin Herrmann, 2nd to Sandra LaBute Discoe, 3rd to Kim Schmuck

2017: 1st place to Kim Schmuck, 2nd to Ollie Johnson, 3rd to Anita Frindell

2018: 1st place to Nadine Sutter, 2nd to Karin Herrmann, 3rd to Mary Park

2019: 1st place to Janice Golden, 2nd to Cindy McCarville, 3rd to Sherri Butler

Since the coronavirus is still a factor, many of the girls unanimously voted to continue with the league a little longer, since no one is going anywhere anytime soon. This will continue then through June.

Thanks to all the girls who made this league competitive and fun, and especially this year with the new normal.
