Regarding Lloyd Melton:
Yes, he is a native of Arizona. His first life as a USMC Recon Sergeant for eight years and Vietnam vet.
His second life was Station Manager/VP of 98KUPD/KUKQ Radio for 27 years.
Third life, and loving it, as a “Restaurateur” specializing in design, menu concepts, and marketing.
He opened his first Biscuit Restaurant in August of 2010 in Ahwatukee. In its first year, it was awarded Best New Business and Best Customer Service by the Ahwatukee Foothills News. In its second year, it received Best Restaurant, Best Customer Service, Best Mom and Pop, and Best Servers—the first to win in four categories.
All our food is made-to-order, and we use local and organic ingredients whenever possible, with no preservatives. It’s all about simple pleasures and good company. Our servings are more than ample, and we take pride in every dish we serve. We are more like Paula Dean than Lean Cuisine and are very proud of our award-winning food.
He and his partner Luis Hernandez now have two successful restaurants and are opening a third original Biscuits Restaurant in Sun Lakes. The hours of operation are the same for all locations: Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Friday we have Fish Fry until 8 p.m. We employ around 16 employees at each location, but are definitely still a mom-and-pop operation.
Lloyd says, “I was inspired by my three brothers who were chefs and won many awards for their Southern recipes.”
Our products are set apart because of our high standard and friendly, competitive service and truly exceptional, down-home food—all the old favorites cooked and served right. Some of our favorite dishes are biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak, SOS, Spam, liver and onions, and meatloaf.
Many of our regular customers at each location are from the surrounding areas, and we appreciate their patronage. It is a genuine, heartfelt feeling that is going into the making of Biscuits Restaurants, and our goal is to have our patrons think of us as their Neighborhood Restaurant.
Lloyd says the secret to our success is, “If you give your customers good food at a fair price and treat them right, they will come back to their ‘Neighborhood Restaurant.’”
