On Nov. 12 the Unity Church of Sun Lakes Explorers group went cruising on Steamboat Dolly on Canyon Lake. The drive there was gorgeous, with mountain roads and spectacular vistas, until we finally arrived at 11:30 a.m. at the tour office of the Dolly. It was the perfect day to be on the lake, with a soft breeze blowing and plenty of sunshine to view the canyon walls, which were pitted with caves and lush with vegetation. We were told by our tour guide that the canyon was home to bighorn sheep as well as many varieties of birds, including bald eagles and vultures. It also holds mountain lions and snakes. Two bighorn sheep were spotted that day.
This outing gave our Explorers the opportunity to spend time getting to know each other outside of our Sunday morning church service, and also strengthened our sense of community with one another.
