SLCT’s love of all things dramatic was on full view at the Sun Lakes Open House at the Cottonwood clubhouse. The very talented Mary Vandergriff designed and constructed the magnificent creation, which won first place in the competition held at Cottonwood. She built the 5-foot-tall scarecrow, dubbed Miss Diva, to represent SLCT at all the Sun Lakes Open Houses. “I had in mind what a theatre scarecrow should look like, and I decorated her to be a bright, glamourous star,” said Mary. “I put her in all the fall colors I could find, and she drew a lot of attention. I loved making her, starting with her meager beginning as a tomato cage and a lot of wire and hot glue. From her false eyelashes and glittered eyelids to her little wire feet, she is just pure creative theatre,” she stated fondly.
Mary received a gift card valued at $100 that can be used at Palo Verde or Cottonwood restaurants and the Pro Shops. Always the generous member, Mary immediately suggested raffling off the gift card at one of SLCT’s upcoming meetings to help raise money to offset costs associated with hiring labor for show set load-ins or strikes.
