Sun Lakes Lutheran Church had several events in February. The annual congregational meeting honored leaders who have helped guide the four year old church to a viable church. Former Leadership committee members Wally Amundson, Dawn Coryea, Tia Meyers and Ramon Rubio were recognized. The meeting reviewed events and activities for 2014 and set their sights on events for 2015.
There were 22 people that ventured to Lake Havasu for a relaxing retreat and an opportunity to share life together. Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day or Fat Tuesday) and all kinds of desserts were celebrated the day before the beginning of the Lenten season. The Mardi Gras atmosphere gave rise to a traditional festive occasion of fun and lots of calories before the disciplines of the Lenten Season.
Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of the 40 day season of following Christ to the cross. The Sermon Series on Sundays will center around the fresh look at the Lord’s Prayer. It will be led by Pastor Dale Hallberg, assisted by Pastor Cora Aquilar and Pastor Jane Mitchell. Soup and Scripture every Wednesday during Lent will take place in the Chapel Center at 5:00 p.m. This traditional event for Lutherans is a hour event with excellent food and a look at Scripture.
March also has several events for us to participate. A church picnic set for Saturday, March 7 at Sisk Park begins at 3:00 p.m. This get together provides a joyful opportunity to celebrate with our winter visitors who add so much to the congregation. A Book Club is being formed by the Education Team, which will meet every other month in a member’s home. The first book to be discussed will be Abraham, the father of three religions. A Lutheran Men’s Group has just begun. They will be meeting on the second and fourth Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast, fellowship and spiritual input. The Bible for Beginners continues with Pastor Dale on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month beginning at 3:00 p.m.
A New Members Class will be held for those interested in or considering joining the church. We will meet on Sundays afternoons, March 15 and/or an alternative March 22. New members will be received on Palm Sunday, March 29. The class is an opportunity to raise questions and consider what it means to be a disciple of the Lord.
The congregation will take in the marvelous Easter Passion Play in Mesa on March 31. It is a stunning performance which enhances the spiritual journey in Holy Week.
Sun Lakes Lutheran Church meets each Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. in the Chapel followed by fellowship time in the Chapel Center. Everyone is welcome.
