And the Winners Are …

On April 25 the Sun Lakes Camera Club (SLCC) held its end of season banquet and year-end photo competition in the San Tan Ballroom of Cottonwood Country Club. SLCC’s officers for the 2024-25 season were introduced, and awards were presented for Photographer of the Year in both print and digital divisions in classes A, B, and C. The Photographer of the Year is determined by adding the points received by each competing photographer for images submitted to monthly competitions during the past season and dividing that sum to obtain the highest average score.

The Print Photographers of the Year are Janet Ballard, Class A, and Phyllis Peterson, Class B. The Projected Image Photographers of the Year are Ken Duquaine, Class A; Ruth Massey, Class B; and Samantha Rose Palmatier, Class C.

In the competition for Best Photo of the Year each competing photographer is allowed to submit up to four images in both print and digital divisions that were previously entered and judged during the season. Images in the year-end competition were scored by a three-judge panel. In the instance of the highest scoring images receiving identical scores, judges were required to break the tie in order to determine a final winning image.

The first-place winning images in the Print Division were Lynn Thompson’s Winter in the Valley in Class A and Donna McGregor’s Its Too Big to Carry in Class B. In the Projected Image Division the winning entries were Linda Davis’ Woodpecker in Class A, Susan Smith’s Teton Oxbow Reflection in Class B, and Samantha Rose Palmatier’s Hungry Hummer in Class C.

Congratulations on your fine work to all of our winning photographers!

SLCC’s board members for the 2024-25 season are President Ken Duquaine, Vice President Gina Long, Secretary Donna McGregor, Treasurer Betsy Ohlgart, past President and Competition Chair Samantha Palmatier, Hospitality Chair Sonja Walcher, ACCC Liaison John Livoti, Membership Kathy Fiakas, and Webmaster Bob Little.

SLCC’s 2023-24 season was very rewarding, with a roster of informative and entertaining guest speakers and a club portfolio of fine print and digital images presented in competitions. We are looking forward to another rewarding and successful season beginning in October.
