SLCT’s Children’s Theatre Shines Brightly
Twenty-eight elementary school teachers will welcome many dedicated volunteers from Sun Lakes Community Theatre (SLCT) to entertain their students with Horton Hears a Who performances this winter and spring. Kindergarten and 1st graders are held rapt by the costumed characters and always react with joy when Horton wins the day by protecting the citizens of Who from the judgmental kangaroos. The performances are followed up with a learning guide created to connect the students with math, art, and vocabulary lessons that recall the play they just saw. It’s a Unified District-approved curriculum that aids teachers in their instruction.
Sandra Bocynesky is directing the play this year. Roger Edmonds adapted the script from the original Dr. Suess story. All the actors, sound techs, and crew members are SLCT members who donate their time for both rehearsals and the three-day-a-week performances. Teachers and students alike are thrilled that SLCT brings live theater to the schools each year for free. For more information on SLCT, visit www.slctinfo.com.
The ImproVables Have Multiple Shows Scheduled
Sun Lakes Community Theatre’s comedic improv troupe has been in demand for the past two years, and that isn’t changing anytime soon. In addition to being one of the keynote performers and breakout session leaders for Neighbors Who Care’s Conference on Aging in late January, they already have six dates booked into 2026. Coming up first is Valentine’s Day +1 on Feb. 15 at Sun Lakes Country Club. Then on April 1 (no fooling) they’ll be performing at Oakwood Country Club, with a Taco Tuesday menu on tap. On April 16 and 17 the group will team up with Chandler High Schools’ improv group to entertain at the Chandler Center for the Arts. They will be “falling into laughter” on Sept. 27 at Sun Lakes Country Club, followed by the fourth annual Halloween dinner show on Oct. 29 in Cottonwood’s Saguaro Room. Next year, on Jan. 14, The ImproVables will be in the Saguaro Room at Cottonwood again, and then back to Sun Lakes Country Club for the 2026 Valentine’s Day dinner.

You’re Invited to a Theatre Arts Extravaganza
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the San Tan Ballroom, residents of Sun Lakes will be treated to free performances by each of the Chandler Unified School District’s Theatre Arts Departments. Chandler high schools are known for their extraordinarily talented students and productions. Each Theatre Arts Department brings its current production’s stars to perform. Audiences are treated to a variety of songs, dances, dramatic scenes, improv, and comedy. Sun Lakes Community Theatre (SLCT) presents each of the theatre directors with a donation to support their Theatre Arts programs. This tradition has been taking place annually for over a decade. This year, SLCT is excited to provide Sun Lakes residents with the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the schools’ upcoming offerings. Residents may bring beverages from the Cottonwood restaurant, but no bar will be provided inside the ballroom. Seating is open, and the event is free of charge.
For a wonderful two hours of entertainment unlike anything you are likely to see elsewhere, join us and help support high school thespians. We promise you will be amazed at the talent you will see. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the San Tan Ballroom located at 25630 S. Brentwood Drive, Sun Lakes, Ariz.
