The Jason Morton Memorial Tennis Classic returned to the courts at IronOaks Fitness and Racquet Center in Sun Lakes. The IronOaks Tennis Club hosts this USTA tournament, which has a long history in Sun Lakes.
The annual Jason Morton Tennis Classic runs Feb. 26 through March 2 and is named after the longtime legend in American senior tennis Jason Morton who represented the U.S. in eight international cup competitions, winning over 100 Gold and Silver Balls in national tournaments.
Morton was the founder and designer of the Oakwood (now IronOaks) tennis facility, and the stadium courts were dedicated to Jason in April of 2011, shortly before his passing.
This year, outstanding local players will compete in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles in age-grouped flights. This open-to-the-public event enables spectators to watch veteran national senior champions and future young rising stars. Tournament Director Matt Gleason (USTA) and the IronOaks Tennis Club attract top-level players from all over the Southwest and out-of-state USTA players annually for this prize money-sanctioned tournament.
