Niners August Results

Jim Wegman, Publicity

Holy cow! August is gone already, and there is talk of the overseeding period coming up. You know, when the courses are undergoing the big work, conditions are sometimes difficult. This year the bunkers will be less of a problem. The Bunker Project here in Oakwood is nearing completion. So, a tip of the old golf cap to Superintendent Ross Buckendahl and his hard-working crew. The bunkers are looking good, the new sand is a higher-quality mix, and the bunker edges have been cleanly cut. Who knows, maybe like Ernie Els, we will finally say “… the bunkers are our friends.”

Gentlemen, having a range for our use is a real benefit. The balls and the baskets belong to the golf operation. Replacing the balls and the baskets adds to the operational expense every year. I would like to remind all our golfers to return the baskets when your practice session is finished.

President Jerry Richards has made a request for volunteers to be trained as game managers. Bill Pender has created a training document that explains the process and leads you through the steps. Having more GMs is important and makes the work easier for the other GMs.

Heard around: One of our members had his first hole-in-one recently. Mike Crewdson, a ready volunteer, game manager, and all-around good guy, stepped up to number 4 tee box in Ironwood, took aim, and “aced” it. Congratulations, Mike! We hope this one leads to many more.
