The Short Line Goes to Annual Railfair in Scottsdale

A prime example of a club member’s modeling skills. An exact model Herm Neuberger built totally from scratch of the Arizona State Capital.

March 14 found the Sun Lakes Model Railroad Club, The Short Line, exhibiting their modules and modeling skills at Railfair at the well-known McCormick Stillman Railroad Park. This park is a nationally known park and has been awarded best park in the United States status. If you have not been there, it is a must see and it’s a fast and easy trip from Sun Lakes. Besides a large building with many model train layouts, it also has some full-size railroad cars, including a presidential car from the Roosevelt era.

Herm Neuberger, a retired Chicago architect and club member, was a genius at modeling perspective. He built an exact model of the Arizona State Capital, totally from scratch. We always show this outstanding model at our annual Christmas display at Sun Lakes. More of Herm’s outstanding modeling is on display just a short distance down the road in Maricopa displayed in the Zephyr railroad car on display there in the brand-new Mike Ingram Heritage Park. The park is also the location of the Maricopa Historical Society Museum and well worth the trip. Be sure and check the hours of operation for the Zephyr before you go.

We meet weekly for lunch, have a monthly business meeting and welcome new members. For club information contact Steve Engelhardt 6023209315.
