The mornings are heating up. Now is the time to think about hydration. Start the day before and continue in the morning. Water is fine, but sports drinks provide more nutrients and electrolytes. Take water or sports drinks with you and drink some at each hole. Remind your cart partner to do the same.
Gentlemen, I have noticed a number of cup edges that are gouged when a blade putter is used to pull the ball up from the cup. My advice: Don’t do it! There is a small ball “grabber” device, costs about $7, available from the Pro Shop. This device, easily attachable to the end of the putter grip makes it easy to lift the ball straight up from the cup leaving no gouges along the sides. Imagine missing a putt when your ball does not go into the cup because of a deep gouge along the rim.

Watch The Birdie. The photographer’s set-up phrase. Our official league photographer, Bob Pender, never asks us to do that. Bob goes about his work quietly and effectively and produces the League Photo Book with more than 100 photos without a missed shot. Bob, a long-time member of the Niners is multi-talented; computer work, photography, organization and special work on the Annual Fund-Raiser. The tickets get sold, the prizes organized and displayed … all under Bob’s watchful eye. Oh, did I mention the slide presentation at the meeting, well that is his handiwork as well. Not only is he a multi-talented craftsman, but he is an all-around good guy and a good stick on the course.
