The IronOaks Breakers Pool League will complete the fourth year of league play this October 2015. When the league began, with just a few members in the beginning of the first year of play, it was hoped that the league would grow and now it has grown to 40 plus members. Automatic entry into the annual tournament is gained by winning first, second or third in any of the six seasonal tournaments. The more wins and places increase the seeding of the player in the championship brackets. The first seeded player in the single elimination tournaments will be a strong player and a player decreases his seeding with each second or third place win or placement in any of the six seasonal tournaments. There will be in excess of 30 members vying for the championships. Many of our members are seasonal and compete when they are in IronOaks and others who live year round play in virtually all seasons, thus the number of players qualified for automatic entry.
The league championships will be played in the Pool Room in the Oakwood Clubhouse beginning October 27, 2015, at noon and will conclude with the championship matches played on Saturday, October 31, 2015. A complete schedule of players and start times of all matches in 8 and 9-ball will be available in the Pool Room and in the activity boxes in the hallway on October 26, 2015. Mark your calendars and come watch your HOA 3 members in action at the pool tables!
Season Five winners in 8-Ball were Rack 1 Sam Gilman first place; Jerry “Slick” Vickery second place; Don “X-Ring” Teusaw third place; Rack 2 Willie “The Wizard” Foster first place; Bill O’Donnell second place; David “The Godfather” Mork third place. Season Five winners in 9-Ball, were Sam Gilman first place; Bill Lange second place; David “The Godfather” Mork third place. A total of 19 players were competing for the annual tournament automatic entry slots. Many of the remaining members of the league have been out of Sun Lakes at other locations around the U.S.A. and many have indicated that they are returning in time for the annual banquet at the poolside on October 25, 2015, and will be in time to play in the tournaments the following Tuesday.
Many league members had an experience where they played pool in their former lives before retiring: in the military, in college or as some of our members did, they played pool (or should I say they hustled pool) to pay for their college education! Members also seem to find the time to play a weekly round or two of golf and still play in the three times weekly sessions and the six mini-tournaments. Information on our league can be provided by contacting David “The Godfather” Mork by email at [email protected] or Willie “The Wizard” Foster by email at [email protected]. Become a member now and you may be able to play in our fifth annual tournaments in 2016!
