Cheers Social Group Activities

Cheers Trip Opportunities: With the recent holidays, most Cheers members who are traveling are visiting family or friends. We did have several members participate in Free Spirit’s Overnight Mystery Tour in November. It turned out to be an enjoyable trip to Palm Springs where among the activities included were the aerial tram, the Thursday evening Street Festival, the Air Museum, and with remaining free time, the art museum.

Additional Cheers members have registered for the AmaWaterways Danube River cruise in October of 2024. This trip starts in Prague, the Czech Republic, and after three nights in Prague, takes you down the Danube, ending in Budapest. AmaWaterways continues to offer numerous river cruises at discount prices, including current availability with a 20% discount and an $895 airfare. There are also options available, including a discount on group fare pricing. Please call Donna with Free Spirit for details (contact info below).

The closure of the principal entry point from the U.S. to Mexico necessitated cancellation of the upcoming trip to Rocky Point. In place, some Cheers members are exploring the California Wine, Whales, and Butterflies trip being offered on Feb. 6 to Feb.10, 2024, which includes a wide variety of activities.

If you’ve not already heard, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are merging. It is anticipated to take close to a year to finalize this merger.

Cheers travel itineraries are open to all, since we utilize and partner with licensed travel agents. For more information, call Richard Lewin at 609-332-3915 or Donna Clucky at Free Spirit at 480-926-5547, Ext 2.

Monthly Wine Tasting: On the second Wednesday of each month, a club member hosts a wine tasting and potluck dinner in their home. Advance registration is required, and an $8 fee per person is collected to provide funds for the purchase of a variety of wine, selected and presented by the host/hostess. Lorene Roberts serves as the activity leader, supporting and assisting monthly hosts.

Hamilton High School Donations: Cheers provides charitable support to needy students at Hamilton High School. Voluntary donations of food, household items, and/or cash are provided monthly. Thank you to Cheers members whose contributions allowed us to adopt three needy families, providing holiday gift certificates to parents and children of each family. If preferred, one may write a check directly to Hamilton High School, specifying which activity you wish your contribution to be credited to. These donations are coordinated by Sally Wengryn, who can be reached at 203-470-0733, in collaboration with Hamilton Social Work staff, and are greatly appreciated in our community.

Dine Out: On the second Wednesday of each month, members dine out together at a selected restaurant in the community. This activity, coordinated by Robert Russo, provides opportunity to try new restaurants and perhaps new types of cuisine in the company of friends. Advance registration is required to confirm restaurant reservations.

Book Club: This group meets every third Tuesday at the Oakwood Library.
