The Sun Lakes Aero Club (SLAC) completed one of its most successful fly-ins in recent years when 14 members showed up in six aircraft for a lunch at Pima Airport just north of Marana January 22. The former military training base now is home to a company that performs maintenance and storage for dozens of huge commercial airliners. Pilots and their passengers included Gary West, Gene Evans and Dick Simmons in Steve Perkins’ Cessna 182; Bob DeLong in Paul Beek’s Bellanca Cruismaster; Chris Beauchamp and Jim Theobald in Tom Howard’s Cessna 180; Craig Day in Cannon Hill’s RV-6; John Philp and Ken Carpenter in their Grumman AA-1B; and Gary Vacin in his Grumman AA1.
SLAC sponsors fly-in breakfasts and field trips each month from November through April. The club’s next fly-in is March 24 to Payson. Addition information is available from Cannon Hill at 590-539-7857 or Gary Vacin at 298-7017.
