AFMA Honors Its Volunteers

The Arizona Fire & Medical Authority’s Board of Directors took the opportunity of National Volunteer Week to recognize and honor their volunteers with their authority. With over 30 volunteers in the nationally recognized Fire Corps program handling a variety of non-emergency duties, AFMA recognizes the support they give to them.

“With duties as diverse as being Arizona State-certified Fire Inspectors, completing residential lockbox installations, community events assistance, home safety surveys, and administrative office support, our Fire Corps volunteers help our firefighters and medics with the behind-the-scenes stuff that often is not seen by the general public,” said Bill Becker, a fire board member and Sun Lakes resident.

Diane Price, another longtime Sun Lakes resident and fire board member, noted that this very article was written by a Fire Corps volunteer, Brian Curry, who serves as AFMA’s volunteer Public Information Officer for the Sun Lakes battalion.

The volunteers were recognized at the AFMA governing board monthly meeting with the proclamation to cover National Volunteer Week, which was April 16 through the 22nd. The proclamation was signed by Board Chairman Richard Bookie.
