AAUW Southeast Valley hosted “Banned Books – a Discussion from the Librarians’ Viewpoint” featuring Lindsay Atwood and Sue Van Horne from the Chandler Library System. The librarians discussed how books are officially challenged, which is part of the book banning process, and the difficulties public libraries face in such situations. The 30 ladies in attendance had plenty of questions about the challenging process. Lindsay and Sue provided insight about protecting freedom of book access while protecting younger readers from age-inappropriate books. Case in point was a book called Snotgirl, which was moved from the Children’s section of the library to the adult area. An informative evening was had by all!
