Bocce Ball Club at Sisk Park

Kathy Hoff

October was a busy and exciting month for the members of the Sun Lakes Bocce Ball Club!

On Oct. 16, the club hosted an Open House for all Sun Lakes residents. It was a fun evening where residents had the opportunity to learn the rules of bocce ball, watch gameplay, and even play a few games to see if bocce was a sport they might enjoy. The evening under the lights at Sisk Park was beautiful, and everyone enjoyed the free lesson and the opportunity to give bocce a try.

The club also participated in all three Community Activities Events held at the ballrooms of Sun Lakes Country Club, Oakwood, and Cottonwood. Board members were on hand to answer questions and share information about the club, its activities, and how residents can get involved.

On Oct. 24, the club kicked off its first session with a Wine and Cheese get-together at Sisk Park. Team members had the opportunity to meet other teams within their divisions, socialize, and schedule their games for November and December.

Then, on Oct. 29, the club hosted its Halloween Bocce Mash Tournament. Thirty-two players showed off their bocce skills while also displaying their creativity with some fantastic Halloween costumes. It was a gorgeous evening filled with fun, laughter, ghosts, and goblins!

Nov. 1 marks the official start of our first session, and we are looking forward to cooler weather, friendly competition, and plenty of fun with friends and fellow bocce enthusiasts out on the courts at Sisk Park.

The Board of Directors has two positions open; Vice President and Secretary. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions and becoming part of the team, please contact Ray Ficek, President, at 402-981-7152.

The Cottonwood Palo Verde HOA requires IronOaks and eligible Robson Reserve homeowners who wish to use the Sisk Park Bocce Ball courts to purchase an annual sticker to put on their Non-Resident Recreation card. The sticker costs $35 and grants the holder unlimited access to the Sisk Park courts for the entire year. You may purchase the sticker at the Cottonwood Palo Verde administration office.
