Bocce with the Sun Lakes Italian American Club

SLIAC Tournament Champions (left to right): Roy Clunk, Donna Penna, Monty Bonello, and Darby Greenway

John Terranova, President

The Sun Lakes Italian American Club (SLIAC) had their annual Potluck and Second Annual Mini Bocce Ball Tournament at Sisk Park on Saturday, April 4, and Steve Ambroso, president of the SLIAC, asked Mike Buscaglia if he would organize a bocce tournament, as he did last year, for those members of the SLIAC interested in participating.

While 33 members of the SLIAC signed up to play in the tournament, after a few drop-outs, 24 members actually participated. The teams were drawn at random, with four players on each team and six teams competing.

The team of Roy Clunk, Donna Penna, Monty Bonello, and Darby Greenway survived the tough competition and were crowned SLIAC Tournament Champions for 2023. The winners received a bottle of Le Bocce Chianti Classico wine, compliments of the Bocce Club.

A fun time was had by all, followed by Chef Ambroso’s specialty, grilled Italian sausage, peppers, and onions, and delicious sides brought by members. A meal well suited for Goombas and Paesanos!

Any Sun Lakes resident interested in participating in bocce ball for the 2023-24 season can learn more about the club by going to our club’s website, www.sunlakesbocceclub.com.

As always, all new players to the game or those who require it can request instruction by our Training Committee by forwarding an email to the attention of the membership director at [email protected].
