Polly Smith
Do you know the exact moment you became a caregiver? Was it sudden, or did your role evolve over time? Have you always been the one to help others out, or was the role thrust upon you? Whatever way or whatever occurrence, it has now affected your life in so many unexpected ways. It may seem like your life is now a never-ending stream of demands, needs, and obligations to someone else.
Join us for four weeks in May to see how we can best help you with the demands associated with caregiving. Polly Smith, RN, Certified Health Minister, and Community Care Advocate, will share in presenting the program created by author and therapist Loren Gelberg-Goff. Loren has been a trained therapist for over 35 years and is the author of Take Back Your Life: A Caregiver’s Guide to Finding Freedom in the Midst of Overwhelm.
Caregiving becomes an isolating, stressful, and never-ending race to get everything done. Inevitably, anger and resentment creep in toward the person being cared for.
Guilt and shame often creep in for not feeling loving all the time and then get added to the mix of fatigue and questioning. Most caregivers don’t have a large support system and no real plan for taking good care of themselves first.
Classes will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 13, 20, and 27, in Room 4 in the Educational building of Sun Lakes United Methodist Church (9248 E. Riggs Road) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. You must register at the church office or call 480-895-8766 to register.
Let’s learn to develop meaningful relationships when weathering the storms of your life. Let’s help one another see how to best determine both our long-term and short-term goals.
For questions, feel free to contact the church at 480-895-8766. See you there!
