Karen Lindgren and Mary Kay Hobby

Judy Onken

Karen Lindgren and Mary Kay Hobby are very special people to me. They are my first “younger friends” made after the dying command of my very best friend. More importantly, they are heading up this year’s Member/Guest Tournament, which promises to be one of the most fun days ever.

The big event is on March 27, with a cocktail party/putting contest the day previous. This has been our routine for the past several years. But the group in charge of this year’s event includes many of our new members who bring new energy and effervescence to the group. The theme this year is “Beach Side Bogie Bash,” and prizes will be awarded for Best Beach Dressed and Best Beach-Themed Golf Cart décor. There will be ample opportunity at this event, as well as before the four-person scramble, to buy raffle tickets.

In a new twist, members are asked to create teams to put together gift baskets for the raffle and/or silent auction. Several on-course games, including a sand trap challenge, closest to the hula hoop, and longest beach drive, and Margarita mulligans will add to the required golf shots we make with ease every day. Be sure to bring a wad of $5 bills to participate in the raffles and special events. A portion of the dollars collected will go to Rescue America whose mission is to rescue, revive, and empower the sexually exploited through a 24/7 Rescue hotline and emergency response.

There is food and drink Wednesday afternoon, coffee and breakfast snacks Thursday morning, and the luncheon after golf. You should not go home hungry. It may be a challenge to go home sober.

Watch for sign-up information on the website, invite a guest, and plan for one of the most fun events of the season.
