Dementia Friendly Movement

Join us for the Sun Lakes Community Dementia Friendly Kick-Off at Oakwood.

A continental breakfast and a morning of learning more about the Dementia Friendly movement will be offered on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m. in the Oakwood ballroom.

With the help of Sun Lakes community leaders, Sun Lakes has been officially designated as a Dementia Friendly Community! Join your community leaders and representatives of our Sun Lakes Dementia Friendly team (Neighbors Who Care, The Perfect Place, and Memory Café) to learn more about the resources available for families living with dementia on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m. in the Oakwood ballroom.

A continental breakfast reception will kick off the morning to hear from leaders and how Dementia Friendly is helping Sun Lakes folks have a greater quality of life in our community. From 10 to 11 a.m., stay for the one-hour Dementia Friendly Info class to learn more about approaching friends or loved ones living with dementia and about the disease itself.

There are two ways to register: Email [email protected] or call Elaine Poker-Yount at 480-203-8548 to RSVP.

For the last 18 months, Dementia Friendly Information classes have been offered to the community free of charge and will continue to be offered. The goal is to share information that helps families and friends living with a diagnosis of dementia and those serving the senior community understand the disease and learn best practices of how to continue to enjoy life and day-to-day interactions with a loved one living with the disease.
