Dementia Friendly Sun Lakes and Sun Lakes United Methodist Church are hosting a seminar for care partners of loved ones living with dementia entitled “How to Better Connect with Your Care Partner During Challenging Situations” on Tuesday, May 6, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, Education Center, Room 1.
If someone you love has challenging moments, leaving you unsure as to how to handle a particular situation in their journey with dementia, this class is for you.
Really connecting with our care partner changes the dynamic of our relationship no matter what the relationship is. The tasks and activities of everyday living can present challenges when our loved ones are perceiving the world differently than we are.
You will learn:
• How and when to connect in a completely different way to get on the same plan as your loved one,
• Skills to do things “with” our loved one versus us doing things “to” them or “for” them for more successful outcomes,
• How to approach different scenarios by keeping a neutral playing field when things get challenging, and
• Several different positive approaches to communicating the same information when something isn’t working as we’d like it to.
For more information or to RSVP to the class, call 480-203-8548 or email D[email protected].
