Desert Navy Update

Richard Volpe

October typically is the month where things start to come to life in the local and surrounding areas of this great place many of us now call home. We’re happy to have reached the point in time where we can start to regroup and start following our normal agendas once again. We remain aware that we haven’t seen the last of the virus that has changed the lives of so many for at least the last year and a half, creating so many difficult times for so many. There continue to be strong signs that things are continuing to move in a positive direction, and the light at the end of the tunnel is moving in the right direction. Hopefully, that will continue.

Please read carefully, as there are recent changes that some may not be aware of. The times and dates still are the same, with our meetings starting at 11 a.m. on the third Friday of each month. The location of the meetings will be held at the IHOP located in the Target Shopping Center off Arizona Avenue. Lunch is optional and is available off the normal IHOP menu following the meeting. Meetings will be for members and associate members only; however, prospective members are always welcome.

Sue and Pat will be offering tickets for the 50/50 drawing prior to the start of the meeting, so try to arrive early and dig deep into your pockets, and you may walk away as a big winner for a small investment of $5 for multiple chances to win. Another bonus is that those members who participate in the 50/50 drawing will receive their dinner free of charge at the end-of-the-year Christmas Party, while guests and those not participating in the 50/50 will be responsible for the cost associated with their dinners. The location for the end-of-the-year Christmas Party is still under consideration, so if you have any suggestions, the Commander would be happy to hear from you.

The Tuesday lunches at the IHOP are still a popular getaway for many. Members and spouses have become regulars, and it is a cool time to get involved in knowing each other and having some fun conversations. If interested, the time is 2 p.m. on Tuesdays at the IHOP. One of our key means of support within our club is that we do have available, within easy access, a source for those in need of an assortment of medical equipment for emergency situations, or just a temporary need, some support tools because of an accident or an unfortunate situation where some personal help is required.

If you would like some additional information on who we are and what we do, feel free to contact Rich Volpe, our Commander. He’ll be happy to talk to you, and he can be reached at 480-802-2532. All veterans of the Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines are always welcome. Come check us out. Meetings are usually pretty much controlled and seldom last more than an hour.
