Desert Winds Concert Band
Rosemary Kovatch
Come join the fun when the Desert Winds Concert Band returns, by popular demand, for their third annual afternoon of fantastic music. You will be highly entertained by a variety of music, such as “Satchmo” (a tribute to Louis Armstrong), “The Carnival of Venice,” “Stevie Wonder in Concert,” plus much more traditional concert band music.
The Desert Winds Concert Band is made up of 40 to 50 musicians consisting of many educators and those who have played over the years. These musicians create memories of their early years of playing in an organized group, high school and college alike. The band is an all-volunteer group under the direction of Bob Myers who taught music in New Mexico. There are currently three members residing in SunBird and three members in the Sun Lakes community. We invite anyone interested in playing in the band to dust off your instrument and come join us.
This is the third year for the Desert Winds Concert Band to perform at Sun Lakes Country Club. The band practices in the Apache Wells Resort church social hall every Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. from late October until the end of March. Each year the band plays three or more Christmas concerts as well as six or seven spring concerts throughout the Valley.
This is a free concert held in the Sun Lakes Country Club Arizona Room. However, donations are graciously accepted to help defray expenses for new music, storage rental, etc. Mark your calendars for March 2 at 5 p.m. at Sun Lakes Country Club to sing along to your favorite tunes, tap your toes to the infectious rhythms, or simply sit back and enjoy.
