Devorah Hadassah Events for May/June 2022

Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer organization that inspires a passion for and commitment to the land, the people, and the future of Israel. Devorah Hadassah is our chapter located in the Southeast Valley.

For more information on attending our events, please contact Eliana Bar-Shalom by phone at 860-377-7126 or by email at [email protected].

The first Monday of each month is our Out to Lunch.

The second Wednesday of each month is or book group, called Literary Ladies, on Zoom at 1:30 p.m.

These are the books we discussed in April and May:

April: The Last Kings of Shanghai, by Jonathan Kaufman

May: The Light of Days, by Judith Batalion

The third Wednesday we collect non-perishable food for JFCS (Jewish Family and Children’s Services) in various communities in the East Valley between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Our last general meeting was on Wednesday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. The speaker was Rabbi Julie Kozlow, founder of The Community in Prescott, Ariz. Rabbi Julie was a Conservative Rabbi for 15 years and felt that Judaism cannot fall into neat little boxes. She has broken out of the traditional Rabbinical box and is creating a more spiritually productive Jewish congregation. Rabbi Julie spoke about The Community and what they are doing and hope to accomplish (she has congregants in Phoenix and back East as well), the future of Judaism, female Rabbis, and educating our youth. You can read about Rabbi Julie in the Jewish News: Jewishaz.com/community/Prescott-rabbi.

Chick Flicks is our Movie group. The dates and movies vary each month but include a discussion of the film via Zoom.
