Duplicate Bridge Club News

The fall season is a time we welcome back our winter residents, as well as new arrivals to the Sun Lakes area. If you have been thinking about joining a bridge group, now is the time to do it! There is a place for everyone in the Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club. For general and specific information and questions about the bridge club, contact Eileen Utter at 480-375-1221 or visit the website bridgewebs.com/sunlakes. You do not need to be an American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) member to play duplicate bridge. Games are held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, at 23914 S. Alma School Road, in Chandler. The cost for each game is $7 per game for members and $8 for non-members. Annual membership dues are nominal. At this time, non-vaccinated players are only allowed to attend the game on Monday afternoon. For the time being, proof of vaccination and a waiver of liability is required for all other weekly games.

Weekday games are at 1:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Both an open and limited game are offered based on attendance. Plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to game time to buy your entry and receive a table assignment. A partner is required for all games except the Thursday morning teaching game. Partnership assistance is available by emailing [email protected].

The 9 a.m. Thursday teaching game is designed to help introduce new players to the game of bridge and to refresh those who have not played in years. A short lesson is given each week, and then hands are played that have been pre-set to reinforce the points of the lesson. Instructors are available in the room to assist with bidding questions and to help the players at each table. Players are encouraged to attend with or without a specific partner. Partners can be arranged by the director. Duplicate bridge masterpoints are earned by ACBL members who place in each game. Please contact Maria Davis at [email protected] for more information about the Thursday morning game.

New members and guest players are always welcome. Sun Lakes Bridge Club strives to be “The Friendliest Game in the Valley.” Come enjoy the fellowship, the friendship, and the competition of the Sun Lakes Bridge Club!
