Temporary Henna Body Art Workshop

Friday, June 2, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Following a presentation on henna, there will be a live demonstration on how to mix henna, make applicators, and how to apply henna. Those who wish can also receive a free small piece of henna body art that can last 8-10 days! The minimum age limit for this program is 8 years old.

As You Wish Canvas Painting

Wednesday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Celebrate our Summer Reading Program by learning how to paint! Learn step-by-step directions for creating a design on a 10×10-inch canvas. Plastic aprons will be provided, but we advise participants to wear clothing you can get paint on.

Animal Food Chains and Food Webs

Thursday, June 8, from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary will be bringing animals to the library! Join us to learn about food chains and food webs through an interactive activity demonstrating the interdependence of organisms in an ecosystem.

Craft Circle

Friday, June 9 and 23, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Join us to work on a personal craft. Bring in any craft you would like to work on to socialize and create on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. No materials are provided, so please be sure to bring in your own crafts to work on!

Jazz and Bossa Nova Performance

Saturday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to noon

Come to the library to watch a performance from PHXJAZZ showcasing the Brazilian genre of Bossa Nova. The quartet, led by performer and educator Keith Kelly, will perform an hour of Bossa Nova jazz as well as a discussion.

Paper Quilling

Roll, shape, and glue paper to create decorative designs. Quilling is all about manipulating paper to form beautiful and creative designs.

The Ed Robson Film Society

Friday, June 16, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

This new program series is based around watching and discussing relevant and important films from around the world. Following the Summer Reading Program’s theme of All Together Now, this month’s film will be Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak, directed by Lance Bangs and Spike Jonze. Following the screening, we will have a book club-style discussion based around the film.

Marble Mugs

Workshop with Duane Roen: Making and Playing Simple Percussion Instruments

Thursday, June 29, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Budding percussionists of all ages will learn how to make and play simple percussion instruments from wood and items found around the home. At the beginning of the workshop, our presenters will help class participants make simple instruments using everyday objects. The workshop will end with a brief concert performed by all the budding percussionists!
