Our Summer Softball Season, which began in early May, wrapped up on Sept. 24. Many thanks to our Summer League Coordinator, Gary Hillabolt, and to our three team managers, including Gary, Larry Maggard and Dan Malachuk. Also, thanks to all the other volunteers, including our umpires, scorers, scoreboard operators and field prep guys. They’re the ones who made the Summer League a success.
Now the opening of our Fall Sessions is approaching fast. First comes overseeding the outfield grass at the Field of Dreams. It’s anticipated that it should begin shortly after the close of the Summer Season. While the field is closed, we’ll have practices and pick-up games at Snedigar Field in Chandler on Alma School Road. Check the home page of our website, www.sunlakessoftball.com, for specific times and dates for practice sessions and for sign-up dates for the Fall Sessions.
Opening day for the Fall Sessions is tentatively set for Tuesday, Oct. 27. Plans call for play to include two divisions with four teams in each division. Games are played on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. If you’re interested in participating, be sure to sign up by the deadline which will be included on our website in the near future.
We can’t wait to hear those two wonderful words, “Play Ball!”
Since there’s not much real news this month, how about a little baseball-related trivia? Did you know that the small country of Curacao has produced more major league players per capita than any other country, including stars such as Hall of Famer Andruw Jones and Ozzie Albies. And there may be more on the way, since Curacao recently won the 2026 Little League World Series title!
