The Anglers Club Fishing Derby for “the kids” starts Friday, November 3, at Lake 6. About 25 to 30 excited young anglers arrive at 9:30 a.m., have their picture taken and are handed a fishing pole. Then, three at a time, they follow an instructor to select a spot on the lake where they will fish. Soon, their hooks are baited and lines go into the water. Now they wait for a fish to bite. Happy laughter and noise echo around the lake. Suddenly someone yells, “fish on.” The lucky fisherman has his/her picture taken with a large catfish and his/her classmates gather around to see the “big fish” before it is returned to the lake.
Other November derby fishing dates are Tuesday, November 7; Tuesday, November 14; Thursday, November 16; Friday, November 17; and Wednesday, November 22. Help is always needed! If you would like to help, arrive at the lake at 9:15 a.m., and we will find a spot for you, or just come and watch the kids having fun.
To find out more about the Anglers Club, attend a meeting. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Mirror Room. Beware! If you like working with kids, you might get hooked.
The Anglers Flea Market starts October 21 and continues every third Saturday of the month. We appreciate all donations; small household items sell fast, as do hand tools. Call Glenn Cincera at 480-268-3045 or Don Herring at 602-574-6800 to have your donated items picked up. Funds from the flea market support stocking fish in Lake 6 and other derby expenses.
Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! to the Sun Lakes Community organizations and individuals who have donated funds and goods to support our club. We couldn’t do it without your help.
