What better time to give thought to nutrition choices than summer? It’s the time of year when there are lots of fresh food options available. Most of us know that good nutrition and exercise are essential for good health, yet many of us struggle to understand the fundamental building blocks of nutrition. The right foods help our bodies build and repair tissue and decrease inflammation, which protect us from malnutrition, illness like the flu and diseases like cancer or autoimmune disorders. The right foods are the fuel that gives us the necessary energy to go about our day. Small, sensible changes to our everyday eating pattern are all it takes to make significant health improvements.
Eating right doesn’t have to be complicated – simply begin to shift to healthier food and beverage choices. Making mindful eating choices can help you stay healthy, manage your weight and be physically active. It’s the best gift we can give ourselves! Summer is a great time to begin.
