Haul Out Your Western Wear for an Old-Fashioned Country Hoedown

Carolyn Leneway

The very popular Country Hoedown, sponsored by The Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation, is here again! Join us on Sunday, March 5, at the San Tan Ballroom at Cottonwood Country Club for dinner, dancing, a costume contest, and silent auction. Enjoy a country buffet of BBQ brisket and fried chicken with all the fixings like cowboy beans, mac-n-cheese, cornbread, and assorted desserts. Dancing music will be provided by Reign-N-Country who play classic and Top 40 country music, as well as some original country tunes. Get out your 10-gallon hats and spangled shirts, polish up your leather cowboy boots, and join us for a great evening.

The doors open at 5 p.m. with a cash bar when the silent auction also opens. The buffet is served at 5:30 p.m. followed by music and dancing from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the best male and female costumes. The fabulous array of silent auction items includes original artwork, golf packages, martini baskets, wine baskets, jewelry, a Norwex basket, and much more.

The Foundation’s mission is “to enhance the quality of life for residents in the greater Sun Lakes area in the areas of health, education, and culture.” The funds raised from the Hoedown’s ticket sales and silent auction will be awarded to winning proposals received from local organizations through grants received by The Foundation. Many Sun Lakes clubs and organizations, such as the Sun Lakes Country Club Pickleball Club, the Sun Lakes Posse and the Rangers, and the Sun Lakes Community Theatre, have received funds to support their work. The Foundation Board members and The Foundation’s Friends Group are all volunteers. The raffle and silent auction items at fundraisers are all donated, so 100% of the proceeds from Foundation events, such as the Christmas Gala and this Country Hoedown, are awarded to local charities.

Tickets are now on sale through The Foundation’s website www.slcommunityfoundation.com for $45 per person. Last year’s Hoedown was sold out, so buy your tickets early. Please contact Cheryl Ravenscroft at [email protected] if you want to support the Hoedown by donating a silent auction item or have specific questions about the event.
