John Concannon, Publicity
As predicted in last month’s issue, the new Board of Directors was elected unanimously by the general membership in mid-December. The new board consists of Vice President John Skoworn, President Bill Beltz, Treasurer Dan Jonker and Secretary Gene McIntyre. Based on the initial board meeting I attended, IMGA is in good hands for 2015. We have added a new Director of Food and Beverage, Ron Gielen. Additionally, Bill Ranney has accepted the directorship of new member orientation. Welcome to Ron and Bill.
Congratulation to Dick Teater for his recent hole-in-one on No. 6. His ace on December 22 closed out the year at Ironwood with a total of eight, including two by Jim Flanagan. The names of all the 2014 members scoring aces will be added to the trophy on display in the Ironwood Club House display case.
Charles Keys joined us at our last board meeting. We are happy to have Charles visit with us providing us the opportunity to ask him about his thoughts pertaining to course management. Charles and his ground crew have been doing excellent work and he informed us that he has been upgrading our maintenance equipment. That is good news. Charles suggested that course renovation plans will hopefully enable him to expand the size and condition of tee boxes and improve the irrigation system. It is his goal to continue the overall improvement of our course and maintain its excellent condition of it.
We kicked off our first play day of the 2015 season with an incredible participation of golfers who stayed after golf, especially in the afternoon. We counted approximately 60 golfers that celebrated the day on the Ironwood patio. Fun and libations were had by all. New members are always welcome, so if you know anyone who has an interest in joining IMGA, encourage them to contact our new President Bill Beltz at 480-883-1904 or via e-mail at [email protected].
The busy season for IMGA is almost upon us with the Ironwood Cup, the Club Championship and the Member/Guest Tournament all taking place in the first quarter so be aware of these tournaments as you plan your golf activities through March.
Eddy Renio reminded us that all 2014 chits (January–November) must be spent by January 31. Unused chits will be transferred to organizations which they have membership in. Another reminder to the 54 Ironwood only members of IMGA, you can still get a free round (nine holes) of golf to play the revitalized Palms course. Call the Pro Shop for a weekend tee time.
