On February 27, three of the best IronOaks Breakers Pool League players stood “Cue Stick to Cue Stick” for a “Duel in the Oakwood Pool Room!”
Over 20 players entered the tournament, competing in three Pockets of play. The three Pocket winners – Jim Boyes, Gene Granquist and Tom Tank – vied in the playoffs for first, second and third.
Playoffs began about 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, and ended about 3:30 p.m. The playoff format was a “race” to five games of 8 Ball. Competition was stiff! Thirty-six games of 8 Ball were played with every match going to a “Hill/Hill,” 4/4 tie, requiring a ninth game to determine the winner. For those who could not be there, you missed some very good pool.
When the chalk dust finally settled, Jim Boyes was victorious, winning first place. Tom Tank won second place and Gene Granquist third. Cash prizes were awarded for the top three finalists. A Stone & Barrel gift card drawing was held in each of the three Pockets for a player not lucky enough to make it to the finals.
Boyes had to come from behind in the Hill/Hill ninth game to secure the win. Noteworthy is the fact Jim Boyes continued his winning streak – without losing a match in his Pocket play or in the tournament. Quite remarkable!
Both Gene and Tom put up a good fight.
A big Thank You for those who were there to cheer on the players. And now on to the March Tournament!
