IronOaks Tennis Club Plans a Busy Year!

The new IronOaks Tennis Club (IOTC) Board has planned a busy year of tennis for members. The opening event will be a “welcome back” mixer with Cottonwood Tennis Club on Saturday, Nov. 7. December will feature the traditional New Year’s Eve mixer, open to all local tennis clubs. A highlight of this event is Coach Kwong’s “world-famous” soup. Jan. 17 to 23 will see IOTC members compete in men’s and women’s doubles. There will be three divisions of play, with a club champion team crowned in each division. February will offer three events. Saturday, Feb. 14, marks the date for the annual Valentine Social, open to all local tennis clubs. This popular mixer is a great time to make new tennis friends and enjoy ice cream sundaes at the end. Following that event, pairs of IOTC mixed doubles players will compete from Feb. 15 to 20, also aiming for the club championship in each of three divisions. Finally, the exciting Jason Morton Tournament, a USTA event with high-level players, will be held from Feb. 25 to 28. March will feature an event that all IOTC members are excited about—the return of the Calcutta Tournament, March 26-27. If you’ve never experienced a Calcutta Tournament, you are in for a treat! Local club members will be paired into teams, and spectators can bid on each team. All proceeds will go to local charities. For those brave souls who play tennis during the summer months, don’t miss the annual Independence Weekend Pancake Breakfast on July 3. This open event will feature social tennis followed by delicious pancakes prepared and flipped by IOTC members. With so many events, be sure to mark your calendars now so you won’t miss any!

IOTC board members for 2020-21 are President: Dick Eslick; Vice-President: Molly Bergesen; Treasurer: Judy Wiegand; Secretary: Edith Tanniru; Membership: Susan Brown.

Warm up your racquets and get ready for a great year of tennis! If you are not yet a member of IOTC and would like more information on how to join, contact Susan Brown at [email protected] or Carole Rockland at [email protected].
