The poppy was recognized as a symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms.
Poppy campaigns, conducted in May and November, are JWV’s major source of fundraising to help disabled and hospitalized veterans as well as those experiencing homelessness. These funds are distributed to veterans’ organizations providing services that make a difference in the lives of our past and present military.
Nonprofit veterans’ organizations benefitting from JWV fundraising activities include U.S. Vets–Phoenix, Ashley’s Place, MANA House, Soldier’s Best Friend, Helping Hands for Freedom, and Instruments 4 Success.
