Reggie Wegman
Lloyd Schaeffer was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He attended NYC Public Schools. He graduated from Wingate High School and went on to Brooklyn College which is part of the New York State University system. He thought he would like to go into medicine but didn’t have the patience for it! He decided on teaching instead. He taught Physical Education and met the love of his life Susan in 1970 while teaching at PS 184 in Ocean Hill/Brownsville, Brooklyn. They are married 52 years, have two daughters and four grandchildren—all boys.
As a young boy, Lloyd was lucky enough to live close enough to Ebbets Field, the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers from the age of six till 1957. That’s when the Dodgers left New York. They broke the hearts of many Brooklynites. He is now a staunch Yankee fan. You will always see him with his Yankee hat! He even marks his golf ball on the green with a NY Yankee marker!
He left Brooklyn and teaching when he had a chance to move to Buffalo, N.Y., for a job in the garment industry in 1973. He and Susan opened clothing stores geared to the college students from the University of Buffalo. They eventually sold their businesses and he became a sales rep for a noted clothing manufacturer. His job took him to Michigan where they lived for many years.
Lloyd and Susan moved to Sun Lakes in 2008. They loved the amenities—especially the golf courses.
Lloyd got very involved with the golf leagues in Oakwood and Ironwood. Lloyd was treasurer of Oakwood Men’s Niners league and later president of that league for four years. Later he was treasurer and IT guy of the Ironwood Men’s 18–hole league. Lloyd set up the newest version of the website for the Niners. Lloyd and his pals, John Guardioso and Lou Gallianardo were co-presidents of the Oakwood 9 Hole Couples league 2013 to 2015. Their motto was Fun, Friendship, and a little Golf. They were responsible for the growth of the 9–hole couples league and its popularity. What a great team they made.
Lloyd served as president again of the 9–hole couples league this past year and served in many other key positions. He never says no and his positive attitude is remarkable. Lloyd believes the best part of Sun Lakes is the people. They have made great friends here in Oakwood and have a wonderful social life. Everyone who meets Lloyd and Susan enjoy their company, and their kind manner. He is a true Mensch!
