MOGA news

In Oakwood, all the courses are recovering nicely and once the overseed is completed in October/November, we should see a great improvement over last year at this time. Great work by our IronOaks golf course maintenance staff!

Volunteers Needed: It’s that time again when we ask our members to step up and volunteer to help in the upcoming 2018/2019 season to lighten the workload for our committees and officers. As the saying goes, “It takes a village,” and because of our great volunteers, the organization runs smoothly, but without our volunteers, there is no organization.

We are looking for people to fill the following positions: Awards, Publicity and Vice President. If you have a few hours each month to help make our organization function, please contact Doug Braun at 480-215-0970 or ldbraun2@gmailcom or Dan Bogaard at 641-780-2666 or [email protected].

IronOaks Overseeding Schedule: The Ironwood, Oakwood Palms courses and practice range are closed from September 24 until October 14. The Sonoran and Lakes courses will be close on October 15 and reopen on November 5. This is a change from the past to allow for course play on two nines while others are being overseeded.

Golf Expo: The date for the annual Golf Expo has been set for Wednesday, November 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Representatives from the top club manufacturers in golf will be on the Oakwood practice range with the newest line of equipment from their respective companies. There will be bags, shoes and clothing on sale, as well as local golf car companies showcasing their newest models from Club Car and E-Z-Go. Several vendors will be on hand to show you some of the best golf car cleaning products and accessories.

Are you new to the area or just looking for a great way to spend time on the course and meet some new friends? You don’t have to be a resident of IronOaks to join our group. We have over 350 members with golfers at every level. MOGA has an event each Thursday throughout the year. Why not join MOGA and meet some new friends while playing a variety of team and individual games each week. Membership application and more information is available on our website at www.mogagolf.org.

MOGA has an event each Thursday throughout the year. New in 2018, we allow our members with handicaps of 26 and higher to play from the Yellow or Silver tees. Contact Dan Muth if you would like to move it forward.

New changes to the rules of golf are coming in 2019. Some golf organizations are implementing the changes in the Fall of 2018 rather than waiting for 2019. Some of the new rules are optional and will be discussed by the MOGA Board at the October meeting. For more information about the rule changes, please go to the link on our website. It is shown at the bottom of the schedule.
