PVLGA golfers hot in August

Liz DeMichael, Publicity

Not everyone left Sun Lakes in August, and it paid off with some great golf from the Palo Verde Ladies Golf Association (PVLGA). Check it out…

8/7. Front Nine. In the Front Nine Tournament, only the shots made on the front nine holes counted toward the final score. The winners were Flight 1: Tammy Visser (26.5), Vallerie Verbeck (27) and Mary Horn and Mary Nelson (tied – 28); Flight 2: Rita Raymond (28), Janet Baron (29) and Sandy Chavez and Dolores Mahaffey (tied – 29.5). Good job, ladies!

8/14. Back Nine. You guessed it. In the Back Nine Tournament, only the shots made on the back nine holes counted toward the final score. The winners were Flight 1: Cindy Bosch (28.5), Carol Ruff (29) and Mary Ann Lofquist, Mary Nelson and Jan Stuckey (tied – 30); Flight 2: Sandy Chavez (29.5), Rita Raymond (31) and Elaine Isaacson (34).

8/21. Fewest Putts. Only the putts made on the green counted toward the score. If the putter was used from off the green, it didn’t count toward the score. Pat Tjosvold got a hole-in-one on #3 and didn’t need a putter on that hole at all! Congratulations, Pat! The other winners of the day were Flight 1: Bonnie Moore and Vallerie Verbeck (29) and Mary Nelson (30); Flight 2: Sandy Chavez (30) and Susie Buell, Ginger Henry and Diana Ridd (tied – 33). We have some hot putters in the PVLGA!

8/28. Select-a-Drive. The PVLGA picked the best drive on each hole and played their individual ball from that place until the ball was holed. The score on each hole was based on the two best net best balls of the four-member team. Two teams tied for first place with scores of 83. Anita Barber, Mary Nelson, Rita Raymond and Christy Thomas tied with Sherri Butler, Ginger Henry, Julie Lutostanski and Vallarie Verbeck. In third place with a score of 88 was Rose Hames, Kathy Jones, Bonnie Moore and Tammy Visser. What great scores!
